iOS Apple & Android Phone Permissions
When you first sign up to Serendipity, we ask everyone for many different types of permissions and I will explain each one below and I will write down Required or Optional next to each one.
-
Motion Fitness/Physical Activity Settings - Required to be set to Allow.
We require this to be set to Allow so we can use your phone's built-in hardware sensors (like the accelerometer and gyroscope) to detect physical activity, step counts, and whether you are walking, driving, or completely still.
-
Allow Tracking - (Optional but Recommended)
Here we ask you to click Allow and grant us the ability to sell your anonymized geolocation data. We use this revenue to help offset the costs of providing the free version of this geolocation tracking app. (You can change this setting at any time).
-
Location Services Settings - Required to be set to ALWAYS.
We 100% require this setting to only be set to Always. If we are not granted this permission, the app will simply not work and we will not be able to show your accurate location. If the app does not have this permission set to Always then Serendipity cannot access your location changes and where we show your location will be wrong. In fact, when this setting is not set to Always, all of your connections will see a red circle around your icon letting you know that the location being shown is more than likely inaccurate because your settings are not set to Always.
-
Notifications (Optional but Recommended)
We send you many notifications for things such as new chat, a request from someone you know to connect, place alert requests and more. It will really enhance your experience to receive all of these notifications so we recommend you set this to Allow.
-
Import Contacts (Optional)
By granting us access to your contacts, we can let you know which of your contacts is also on Serendipity. We also make it easy for you to invite your contacts who are not on Serendipity and we also let you know when any of your contacts we imported, later sign up so you both can connect.
Additional Android Permissions
Android phones work a little different than iOS phones. For Android, we must For Android phones we ask for the following additional permissions:
-
Battery Optimization (Required) set to Unrestricted
Under each apps setting, there is a battery option. This MUST be set to UNRESTRICTED otherwise your phone will also limit access to your location data and this will result in your location not be correct on the app. For this reason we require this setting to be set to UNRESTRICTED BATTERY.
-
Battery Saver (Required) set to OFF
Battery Saver helps you save battery on your phone by limiting many functions of the phone and that includes updating your location when the app is in the background. Keeping Battery saver ON will make Serendipity not work properly and we will not be able to show your accurate location. So we need this to be set to Off so we can show your accurate location.
