The Map, Radar and List View Screens on Serendipity are the main screens of the application. Below is an explanation of the main functionality of each screen. Please note that you can navigate between the various screens by clicking on the icon on the bottom right of the app and it will open up 3 options, Map View, Radar View and List View. Simply click on either one and it will open up the appropriate screen. Please note that on the bottom left of each screen is our Filter Icon. From here you can change the filters to see only your Connections, favorite connections or active connections. You can filter by the degrees of separation or filter by only the people you receive place alerts from or filter by the people in the groups you created. If you choose a filter then the below screens will only show the people associated with the filters you have chosen. By default we show all Active Connections. Active Connection are those connections who we have had a location update in the past 24 hours. Those who we have not received a location update in 24 hours will have a grey circle around their icon and it will show how long it has been since our last update (ie, 36h for 36 hours, 5d for 5 days, 2w for 2 weeks and 1m for 1 month).
Map View
When you first open up the app, the main screen you land on is the Map Screen. You will be in country view so you can see an overview of your connections close to you and in the country you live in. You will also see which users are moving as well. The following are the things you can do on Map View:
View your connections moving on the map.
We show all of your connections locations on the map. Those who are moving, we show at the very top and we show the speed at which they are traveling. To zoom in and see their exact location with them moving on the map, simply, click on the profile icon of the connection you want to follow and the app does the rest. Once you click on someone you want to follow the map zooms in on that person and the map will auto move to keep up with that persons movements so you can just keep watching on the map. This puts you in "follow" mode. You can only "follow" one person on the map at a time. If you choose to "follow" someone else, simply click anywhere else on the map and it will unfollow that person and now you can follow someone else. Or simply click on another profile icon you wan to follow. If you do not unfollow a person, the map will keep taking you back to that person you are following. Also, the color of the icon turns to a lighter blue color to indicate that you are following that person. If you ever want to go back to the country view, simply click on the dark blue Country View button and you will see the zoomed out view. You can scroll around the world to see your worldwide connections.
Use Serendipity AI Chat
On the bottom right you will see a chat icon. You can ask our AI Chat anything including what are good places to eat, local hospitals, policy or anything. Try it out as it will save you time than switching to another application for a simple search.
Street View - For paid plan users we offer Street View. Simply zoom in on the location you want to view and then drag and drop the light blue person icon on the right side of the map to that location and you will see what that street looks like (if available).
Standard vs Satellite view
We also show the standard map but at anytime you can switch to Satellite view by clicking on that button on the bottom of the map.
5. Add More Connections
On the top left you will an icon of two people shaking hands. When you click on this icon you can see the various ways in which you can invite others with whom you want to share your location with. In the first option you can simply click on Share and Connect and then click on Send Invitation via text message or email or whatsapp or any other format you want on your phone to share it with someone and once they click Accept, you will both be able to see each others location. Be sure that those connections you are inviting have already downloaded the Serendipity app and created an account. Once they do this, they can accept the invite.
You can also import the contacts on your phone and once that is done, you can easily invite them to connect and you can also see which of your contacts are already on Serendipity. For those already on, just send them an invite and once accepted you both will be able to see each others location.
The last thing you can do is search to see if someone you know is on the app and if they are, you can also send them an invitation to connect.
List View
On this view you can see all of your connections and here are the various things you can do and see on List View.
1. See all your connections
This is the full list of people who you have agreed to share your location with.
2. View their location with respect to your using the compass next to their profile image.
If you turn your phone, you will see the compass moving as it will show in what direction they are fro you.
3. View their exact address
For those on the paid plan, you click on Show Location and it will show street address.
4. Block/Delete Connection
If you swipe right on their profile image it will reveal Block and Delete buttons for you to click on to block that connection or delete that connection. When you block a connection, they can no longer send you chats or view your location. You can always unblock them in the Privacy section of the site.
5. Favorite a Connection.
If you swipe left on their profile image you will see favorite icon. When you click on that they are added to your favorites. This makes thing easier to filter different views on map, radar and list view screens if you only want to view your Favorite connections.
6. Chat
If you swipe left on their profile image you will also see a chat icon. Simply click on it and you can start chatting with that connection. You can also add images and video to your chats.
7. Six Degrees of Separation
Next to each profile icon is a yellow circle with a number in it. That shows the number of degrees of connection you are away from that person. If two people know each other they are considered 1 degree connections. If your friend knows someone you do not know, you are a 2nd degree connection to them. And if that 2nd degree connection knows someone you do not know, then that person is considered to be a 3rd degree connection. We will show all the different degrees of connection here. And it is theorized that all people in the world are connected through the 6 degrees of separation.
Radar View
On Radar view, you can easily view your connections by how far away they are from you. You are at the center and the other connections closest to the center are closest to you and ones farthest away from you will be on the edge of the circle. The following are the things you can do on Radar View:
1. View all of your connections by radius
Towards the bottom you will see a slider. Simply move that slider to the left and you will see more of your connections disappear. We start the slider at a distance of 12,500 miles away from your location which is half way around the world. As you move the slider you will see it shows the distance and how many connections are within that radius of your location. You can even go all the way down to just 1 mile.
2. Chat & View Location
In the radar if you click on any of those connections, you can see their profile icons at the bottom. From here you can click on the chat icon and start chatting. You can also click on Show Location if you are on the paid plan and view their location.
